Shimmering Spectacles
2015, a public, projected light installation California Historical Society, 678 Mission Street, San Francisco, CA
Using a unique set of original stereoview photographs from the 1915 San Francisco world's fair (the Panama Pacific International Exposition), along with contemporary images he shot himself, Scott Stark projects moving images onto the front and side windows of the California Historical Society building in downtown San Francisco. Commemorating the centennial of the 1915 fair, Stark turns the windows into "spectacles": lenses that bring into focus the amazing "spectacles" that comprised this historic moment in San Francisco history.
